Successful Go-Live of Market Coupling AT-HU and AT-CZ

On 17.06.2021, a major milestone for the integration of the electricity markets in Europe was reached: Market Coupling was successfully implemented at the borders to Hungary and the Czech Republic. The new processes replace the previous explicit day-ahead auctions at these borders; day-ahead capacities are now only allocated implicitly via the power exchanges (NEMOs).

APG had already implemented market coupling processes for the allocation of cross-border capacities at the borders to Germany, Italy and Slovenia. With the integration of the CEE borders, the Austrian day-ahead market is now coupled with the European markets at all borders (with the exception of Switzerland).
