Non-Frequency Ancillary Services

Non-frequency ancillary services (NFAS) comprise all ancillary services required to ensure the secure and efficient operation of the electricity system without directly contributing to frequency control. According to Section 141(4) in conjunction with Section 6(1)(120) of the Electricity Act (Elektrizitätswirtschaftsgesetz, ElWG) these include:

  • Static and dynamic voltage control
  • Black start capability and island operation capability
  • Dynamic reactive current injection
  • Inertia for local grid stability
  • Short-circuit current
  • Harmonic compensation
  • Phase-angle correction

APG aligns the procurement of non-frequency ancillary services with the requirements of Directive (EU) 2019/944 as well as the ElWG and the corresponding regulations issued by the regulatory authority.
