High voltage direct current connections (HVDC)

Principal objectives and contents

Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/1447 establishing a network code on requirements for grid connection of high voltage direct current systems and direct current-connected power park modules (Network Code on High Voltage Direct Current, NC HVDC) entered into force on 15 September 2016.

The NC HVDC sets out harmonised rules for grid connection for HVDC systems and DC-connected power park modules. Since Austria has no high voltage direct current systems, the requirements of the NC HVDC are only a formality at present.
